Listers, St. Peter’s List has teamed up with the New Jersey based Proud Catholic Company to bring you a graphic of the “Virgin of Breezy Point” – the statue of Our Lady of Grace that was left standing amongst the burnt rubble after hurricane Sandy.1 The statue rose to prominence after several photos of the lone statue went viral.
Both St. Peter’s List and Proud Catholic Company pray that the graphic will preserve and channel the hope that the statue has given those affected by hurricane Sandy. Please remember to continue to give to Catholic Charities as many people are still relying on the aid of the Church. SPL hopes to contribute to the relief efforts by soon offering the graphic on merchandise in the SPL Store.

- Virgin of Breezy Point: The title is a cultural one that has arisen from news stories and the name of the neighborhood in Queens. It is not an officially declared title and the statue itself and the graphic both depict Our Lady of Grace. [↩]

When exactly did Miriam become our heavenly mother? Why is the Catholic Church the one true church and what about the other Christians who know, love and serve the Lord but who are not Catholic? I’m really confused.

The New Covenant was described at the Last Supper – read it. If you do not participate in the Body and Blood, you are outside the New Covenant. (e.g., Luke 22:20)

Bea, all families have had a mother. Jesus has a mom. God chose her so we are not alone in loving Mary. God loved her first. His love for us is so intense that He wanted to share His mom with us. She is our spiritual mother. One who is most obedient to His will. Her trial through the life death and Resurrectiion of Jesus is Mary’s spiritual labor pains, if you will, giving birth to the Church. To us her spiritual children. If you are confused as to some issues, do not be afraid, research. Go back to the Apostolic Fathers forward and read. We have the same DNA as they did, The Catholic Church has evolved but continue the same.
When we get to heaven (if I get there) Jesus will introduce His mom and we can say I know her and thank you Jesus for all these years of being able to love her for her yes to God. ( that is my humanness way of sayin I love you Mary)
Bea, be not afraid, please

Honey,(Bea) she has NEVER become our heavenly mother, never. If you are looking, the truth is found in the Word of God. Search and you will find. Then, make sure you get into a church that teaches it and most of all….believe it!! God Bless

Bea, When He was dying on the cross, our Lord and Savior gave us into the care of His beloved mother. “When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son.’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother.’” (John, 19:25-27)
What better example and friend could we have on the journey to follow Christ than His first follower, the woman whose “yes” to God negated Eve’s “no”, the human who first loved Jesus, and gave her life to following Him?
When we say Mary is our mother in heaven, we do not mean that she is God. Mary is a creature, like us. But we are still on the journey, Mary is already there.
The Lord is our brother, and His mother is our mother too.
Blessings,
Natalie

When Jesus was on the Cross, He said to John, “Son behold your mother and to Mary Jesus said, ” woman behold your son.” from that moment Jesus shared his mom with us. He asked John to take care of her as his mother and all the disciples of Jesus after John. Bea, do yourself a big favor. Go into Vatican Documents, EWTN Library, somewhere where you can find the early Fathers of the Church. There are Bishops, Priests, who was next after the death of Peter, James , John Mark, Matthew, there was not avoid left, the Catholic Church has been evolving since Jesus Christ set up His Church. Just like with us our DNA is the same now that is was a conception, same with Church, the DNA is the same and evolving as the years go on. Please get in a quiet space and enjoy reading.
